What is a School wide Title I program?
Ekalaka Public Schools qualifies as a Title I School wide program. A Title I School wide program is a method of delivering Title I services in eligible schools. As a Title I School wide program, our Title services can provide comprehensive strategies for improving the entire school so every student achieves high levels of academic proficiency.
School wide programs do not have to identify particular children as eligible for services; they serve all children in the school. The purpose is to generate high levels of academic achievement in core subject areas for all students, especially those most in need. In this way, they can embrace a high-quality curriculum that ensures all children meet the state’s challenging academic standards. Some students simply need more time and direct, explicit instruction in order to succeed. Classroom and Title I teachers will utilize data from benchmark assessments, and classroom work to determine those showing the greatest need. Students showing the greatest need, and who are not receiving special education services, are serviced first.
Annual Notice to Parents: Right to Request Teacher Qualifications
Our district receives federal funds for Title I programs that are part of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. You have the right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher(s). If you request this information, the district or school will provide you with the following as soon as possible:
- If the teacher has met state licensing requirements for the grade level and the subjects in which the teacher is providing instruction;
- If the teacher is teaching under an emergency status, which state licensing requirements have been waived;
- The type of college degree major the teacher has and the field of discipline for any graduate degree or certificate; and
- If your child is receiving Title I services from paraprofessionals and, if so, his/her qualifications;
If you would like to request this information, please contact your child’s school.
How are parents involved?
∙ Parents are notified about Title I services.
∙ Parents are encouraged to participate in school activities/meetings.
∙ Parents may participate in Title I meetings and learning opportunities. ∙ Parents are provided Title I information via newsletters, conferences, and parent involvement.
What can parents do?
∙ Share a love of learning and set a good example by reading, practicing math facts, playing with money (identify coins/make change), writing letters and/or lists, comparing prices, etc.
∙ Make learning fun by playing educational games, visiting the library, and listening to and talking with your child.
∙ Show interest in your child’s school day by asking specific questions and praising effort and improvement.
∙ This year as a School wide Title I program, we welcome your ideas and feedback about our Title I services. We are looking forward to delivering our Title I services school wide! This will be a great benefit to our students.
