Agricultural teacher for the 2026-2027

Ekalaka Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified and enthusiastic Agricultural teacher for the 2026-2027 school year.  Applicant must have a valid Montana Educator License with the appropriate endorsement and/or demonstrate the ability to obtain proper certification. Newly hired teachers may qualify for loan forgiveness through the Montana Quality Educator Loan Assistance program (each of our schools islisted as “impacted schools.”)

TITLE:  High School Teacher

UNIVERSAL OBLIGATIONS/EXPECTATIONS OF EACH STAFF MEMBER

It is the expectation of the District that each staff member will: (1) put the safety, health and well-being of students at the forefront of all actions, job responsibilities and decisions, and (2) undertake all duties in alignment with the District’s Strategic Plan.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plans and develops course of study according to curriculum guidelines of District and state requirements.  Actual curriculum must often be tailored for three or more levels of academic ability and previous achievement.

  2. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

  3. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.

  4. Develops and presents specific lesson plans, using a variety of techniques, including lectures, projects, exhibits, field trips, audio-visual and library resources, computers, and the Internet.

  5. Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.

  6. Conducts standardized tests in accordance with District policies and law.

  7. Maintains order in the classroom and, in conjunction with administrative staff, administers discipline when necessary to achieve proper behavior.  May prescribe extra assignments or detention in cases of student misconduct.

  8. Strives to implant by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and 

       instructional goals and objectives.

  1. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  2. Evaluates student progress on a regular basis.

  3. Keeps records of academic performance, attendance, and social acclimation.  Reports on all aspects of student development for school records and parents; conducts parent-teacher conferences on both a regularly scheduled and an as-needed basis.

  4. Shares with other teachers and aides responsibility for monitoring halls, study periods, and lunchroom.

  5. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board Policy.

  6. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

  7. Participates in faculty meetings. educational conferences, professional training seminars, and workshops.

  8. Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.

  9. Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

  10. Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.

  11. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad  academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.

  12. Works with guidance counselor in helping students select course of study or college.

  13. Reports cases of suspected child abuse according to state law.

  14. Supervises classroom aides.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Be appropriately licensed and endorsed in accordance with state statutes and Board of Public Education rules, or be considered appropriately assigned if the administrator is enrolled in an internship.

  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, staff, and the community.

  • Ability to handle stressful situations.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.

  • Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.

 

EQUIPMENT USED:

A variety of electronic and technology devices, copier, telephone/voice mail, fax.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside and outside.  The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.  The employee frequently will work irregular or extended work hours while performing the duties of this job.  The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, and stand; twist at neck and waist; kneel.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet environments.  May be required to lift or move up to 20 pounds.

MENTAL/MOTOR DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work.  The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another).  Guidance and reinforcement are infrequently available.  The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity.  The employee is frequently involved in social interactions which require oral and written communications.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Salary and work year to be according to the current schedule.
