      8/28/10 Ekalaka @ Hysham Tournament

On August 17, the 2009 volleyball team started practice. This year’s team only has twelve girls out which include:  Emma Guyer, Cele Ketchum, Marlee Nies, Brittany Hansen, Marcell Bruski, and Caitlin Dalzell, Saxon Schell, Sara Bruski, Jessica Dalzell, Ellen Guyer, Jordan Livengood and Alissa Wolenetz. The team is coached by Chioko Nakasone and Kristy Frye as assistant. The team traveled to Hysham on August 28 for the first volleyball tournament of the season. The team first competed in pool play. The volleyball girls ended up taking 2nd place at the tournament in Hysham.  Their first game was close against Terry, but Terry took the lead at the end. Cele Ketchum and Caitlin Dalzell each had 1 kill. There was 11 blocks total with Caitlin Dalzell having 6. The second game was against St. Labre which they won easily. Caitlin Dalzell had 3 of the 4 kills. Cele Ketchum had 2 of the 5 digs and Brittany Hansen with 4 of the 10 aces. Lady Bulldogs played Hysham Pirates, which the bulldogs won. Caitlin Dalzell with 3 blocks, and Cele Ketchum and Marcell Bruski with 3 Aces. Going on through the loser bracket the next game was against Hysham, which the Bulldogs won. Following that was Wibaux v. Ekalaka, the game that would decide what team would be in the championship against Terry, and Ekalaka barely pulled it off against Wibaux. In that game Marcell Bruski had 5 blocks while Caitlin Dalzell had 3 kills. In the championship Terry won again, but the Bulldogs put up a fight. Caitlin Dalzell with 5 blocks and Cele Ketchum with 3 digs. Emma Guyer had 4 aces.

9/3/10 Ekalaka @ Wibaux Tournament

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Wibaux to play the Longhorns first and the Bulldogs won. Cele Ketchum led the kills that game as well as aces too. Marcell Bruski was rocking the net with 7 blocks. The Bulldogs then played the Hysham Pirates, which the Bulldogs won again. Cele Ketchum had the most kills while Marlee Nies and Marcell Bruski had the most blocks. Marlee Nies popped up the most digs, and Cele Ketchum had the most aces. Next in line was the Circle Wildcats which has always been a really good team; the Bulldogs lost but put up a good fight. Caitlin Dalzell took the lead in kills. Marcell Bruski had the most digs and blocks; while Marlee Nies had the most aces. Again, the Lady Blue got to play Hysham again. Not once but twice that day, Ekalaka beat Hysham! Marlee Nies and Caitlin Dalzell hit down the most kills. Caitlin Dalzell had 2 out of 4 blocks. Brittany Hansen and Cele Ketchum tied in aces. Emma Guyer had 2 beautiful assists. The girls were already warmed up and ready to play in the championship! The girls played real hard and lost three matches but they were close. Scores were 25:21, 26:24, 25:12. Marlee Nies knocked down 6 kills, Marcell Bruski led in blocks. Cele Ketchum popped up 9 digs and had 4 aces.

9/7/10 Ekalaka & Broadus

Broadus came to Ekalaka for Junior Varsity and Varsity games. Bulldogs beat the Hawks in three quick matches. The scores were 25:15, 25:19, 25:20.Caitlin had 7 of 16 kills. Marlee Nies, Marcell Bruski and Caitlin Dalzell all had 3 blocks. Marlee Nies had 6 digs. While Cele had 8 of the 9 aces. Marcell Bruski put up 10 wonderful assists.

9/11/10 Ekalaka & Northern Cheyenne

The volleyball girls played The Northern Cheyenne Eagles on Saturday. The First game the Varsity Starters were in which are Cele Ketchum, Emma Guyer, Marlee Nies, Marcell Bruski, Caitlin Dalzell, and Brittany Hansen. At the end of the first match the score was 5:25. Coach, Chioko Nakasone decided to put all the JV girls in and the Bulldogs still won, the second match was 25:13 and the 3rd match was 25:5. Marlee Nies and Sara Bruski tied with the most hits, while Alissa Wolenetz and Sara Bruski tied with 2 digs. Jessica Dalzell had 4 Aces out of the 15 Aces. Jordan Livengood had 3 of the 6 assists.

Triangular @ Ekalaka v. Hysham & St. Labre

On September 18th the Lady Bulldogs had a home Triangular Tournament with Hysham Pirates and the St. Labre Braves as the competitors. The first game was the JV Bulldogs against the St. Labre braves which they won easily. The scores were 25:14, 24:20, 15:6. Then later that day after St Labre and Hysham played JV bulldogs played St Labre once again and also beat them again. Those scores were 25:19, 25:16, and the last match was 15:9. After that game the Varsity Bulldogs played St. Labre and beat them in three matches with the scores 25:7, 25:11, and 25:10. With the JV girls playing most of the time. Caitlin Dalzell had 7 kills, Marcell Bruski had 1 block and 5 aces, Jessica Dalzell digged up 10 balls, and Emma Guyer led in the assists. The last game of the day Ekalaka played Hysham and put them away in 4 matches. The first match the Bulldogs won 26:24. The next match the Hysham girls pulled it off with the score of 22:25. Then the Bulldogs winning the next two matches 25:14 and 25:10. Caitlin Dalzell hit down 11 kills and had 5 blocks. Jessica Dalzell had 7 of the 30 digs. Emma Guyer had 11 of the 24 assists. While Caitlin Dalzell and Jessica Dalzell tied with 3 aces.

Ekalaka v. Wibaux @ Ekalaka

Tuesday night, September 21st the Wibaux Longhorns arrived in Ekalaka. There was a JV game and Varsity. The JV ended up losing in 3 matches but they were all really close matches. The Wibaux Longhorns ended up beating the Ekalaka Bulldogs for the first time in the season in 3 matches. The first score was 24:26, 22:25 then 22:25 again. Caitlin Dalzell had 11 kills, six blocks and 5 digs. Marlee Nies and Cele Ketchum both had a ace. Marcell Bruski had 8 assists out of 18.

 

Ekalaka v. Rosebud @ Ekalaka

    The lady Bulldogs pulled off another easy win on September 24th against the Rosebud Wranglers. Coach Nakasone decided to put in the Junior Varsity girls for most the game. The scores were 25:11, 25:8 and 25:14. Marlee Nies had the most kills. Alissa Wolenetz  had 2 out of the four digs. Emma Guyer had 5 aces and 3 assists.

 

Ekalaka v. Broadus @ Broadus

   The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Broadus Tuesday, September 28th. The JV had a great game but ended up losing is four matches. The first score was 25:15 with the Bulldogs winning. Then 25:14, 10:15 and 16:14 with Broadus winning the last three matches. In the JV game Jessica Dalzell led with the most kills and aces while Ellen Guyer had 2 digs and Jordan Livengood had 1 beautiful assist. After that hard loss the Varsity girls were ready for an intense game. All the matches were very close with the Bulldogs winning the first match 25:23 then Broadus winning 25:23, Ekalaka won the next match 25:23 but Broadus put it to an end beating the bulldogs 25:15 then 11:15 in the last match. Marlee Nies had 8 kills, then Jessica Dalzell had 4 of the 12 blocks. Brittany Hansen popped up 5 digs and got 3 aces. Marcell Bruski had 12 great assists.

 

Tournament @ Jordan

The lady bulldogs left at 6:30 in the morning on Saturday, October 2nd to head to Jordan. There were 6 teams there, Jordan, Ekalaka, Scoby, Nashua, Hysham, and Circle. The Bulldogs played Jordan first, not doing their best but still got away with a win. Caitlin Dalzell had 8 kills and Marcell Bruski had 5 blocks. Cele Ketchum also had 3 aces. The scores to this game were 25:22E, 27:25J, 15:8E. The next game the Ekalaka Bulldogs were ready to play the Circle Wildcats, if was a very close game and the Bulldogs definitely brought it but ended up losing just barely. The first match the Bulldogs won with the score of 23:25E, then the next two matches circle won 18:25C, and 11:15C. Caitlin Dalzell had 8 of the 20 kills, 6 of the 15 blocks, and 2 of the 7 digs. While Emma Guyer had 2 digs and 2 aces. After that loss the Bulldogs played the Scoby Spartans, which was another easy win with the scores of 12:25E, then Scoby winning 19:25S and the Bulldogs took the win at the end, with the score of  7:15E in the last match. Caitlin Dalzell had 8 of the 23 kills. Marcell Bruski had 4 of the 11 blocks. After winning against Scoby, Ekalaka was in the Championship against Circle. With a long day of volleyball the Circle Wildcats took the championship win pretty easily. With 4:25C, 16:25C and then 17:25C. Marlee Nies, Brittany Hansen, and Marcell Bruski all had 2 kills and Caitlin Dalzell had 5 of the 9 blocks. Caitlin Dalzell and Emma Guyer both had 3 digs.

Triangular Tournament at St. Labre

The Lady Bulldogs headed to St. Labre for a triangular tournament to play Circle and St. Labre. The lady bulldogs beat St. Labre in three matches with the scores to 25 to 11, 25 to 1, and 25 to 17. With the JV girls playing most of the game. Cele Ketchum and Emma Guyer tied with 2 kills. Cele Ketchum had 1 block. Ellen Guyer and 2 digs and 7 aces. Then next the Bulldogs played the Wildcats with the scores of 25 to 22 Ekalaka winning, then 25 to 17, 25 to 14, and 25 to 22 with Circle winning the rest of the matches. Caitlin Dalzell had 11 of the 33 kills and 8 of the 19 blocks. Cele Ketchum had 10 of the 37 digs. While Marcell Bruski had 3 aces and 19 assists.

Ekalaka v. Wibaux @ Wibaux

The Wibaux Longhorns defeated the Lady Bulldogs in three matches. The scores were 25 to 17, and 25 to 22, and 26 to 24. Caitlin Dalzell had 6 kills. Marcell Bruski had 6 blocks and 11 assists. Brittany Hansen had 9 of the 34 digs. While Cele Ketchum had 3 aces.

4th Place At District Volleyball in Glendive

Thursday October 28, the Lady Bulldogs headed to Glendive for Districts. The first game they played against the Jordan Mustangs. The Bulldogs put away the Mustangs in three quick matches. With the scores of 25 to 17, 25 to 13 and 26 to 24. Caitlin Dalzell had 10 kills. Marcell Bruski had 5 blocks. Marlee Nies had 5 digs. Emma Guyer, Cele Ketchum and Caitlin Dalzell had 4 aces. While Marcell Bruski and Emma Guyer both had 7 assists. With the Bulldogs winning, next on the list was Terry. The Terriors beat the Bulldogs in three matches 14 to 25, 25 to 7, and 25 to 9. Marlee Nies and Emma Guyer both had 2 kills. Marcell Bruski had 4 of the 10 blocks. Marlee Nies had 8 digs. Cele Ketchum had 2 aces.

 

 

Volleyball Tournament

The Lady Bulldogs headed to Districts which was held in Glendive Montana.  The lady bulldogs had to play the Jordan Mustangs first on Thursday afternoon. The Mustangs put up a good fight but the Bulldogs put it to an end in three matches. Then next the Bulldogs had to play the Terry Terriers Friday morning but the Bulldogs couldn’t get away with a win and got their first loss. Then that following night the Lady Bulldogs played the Hysham Pirates it was a very intense game but the bulldogs won in three close matches. Since they beat Hysham that means that they were going to Divisionals. To decided 3rd and 4th place the Bulldogs played the Wibaux Longhorns which the bulldogs lost but didn’t give it to them.

Next week the Lady Bulldogs headed to Sidney where Divisionals was being held. First the Bulldogs had to play the number one team from the other district which was the Fairview warriors. The Bulldogs lost in three matches but they were so close in every match. Having their first loss, the Bulldogs then played SACO Hinsdale Panthers and won in 5 matches. The next team the Bulldogs played was the Savage Warriors. The Bulldogs lost out against Savage but had a great season and will be expecting another one next year.
