The Carter County FFA has had a good start to the new school year. We have 21 members this year and a new advisor, Mr. Mike Morgan. The new list of members starting with officers: President Conner Castleberry, Vice President Logan Wolff, Secretary Lacey Keith, Treasurer Scot Willson, Reporter Angela Brence, and Sentinel Ches Meyer. Members include: Matt McCabe, Jason Johnston, Joel Johnston, Cody Cole, Carol Peabody, Kelli Carroll, Leva Bonsell, Brent Fix, Greg Brence, Pat Hansen, Emily Brence, Cele Ketchum, Kaitlin Morgan, Lane Butler, and Kris Harkins. The year began with District Leadership School on September 10th, 2007 in Broadus. Lacey Keith, Conner Castleberry, Scot Willson, Angela Brence, Leva Bonsell, and Kaitlin Morgan all attended the conference, along with students from Plevna, Baker, Miles City, and Broadus. Later we competed in Districts hosted by the Baker FFA team. Range was our first contest and we placed 4th among all the teams. Angela Brence placed 3rd, Scot Willson 21st, Cele Ketchum 22nd, Kelli Carroll 24th, Lacey Keith 36th, and Leva Bonsell placed 38th. The next competition in Baker was Livestock Judging. The team placed in the top five with 5th place. Individual placing's were: Leva Bonsell 18th, Conner Castleberry 36th, Scot Willson 37th, Angela Brence 39th, Lacey Keith 41st, and Carol Peabody 46th. Our next competition was up in Billings, Montana. During the 15th and 16th of October, the Livestock and Horse Judging team took part in the NILE competition. The Horse Judging Team took 23rd place overall. The team consisted of Angela Brence, 34th, Kaitlin Morgan, 49th, Leva Bonsell, 67th, and Kelli Carroll, 73rd. The Livestock Team placed 23rd overall as well. The team consisted of Cody Cole, 35th, Conner Castleberry, 75th, Leva Bonsell, 92nd, and Scot Willson, 96th. Ag Days was the next event on our agenda. The Livestock Team (once again) and Sales and Service traveled to Bozeman for a three day event. The Livestock Team placed 27th overall. Lacey Keith placed 72nd, Kaitlin Morgan 89th, Leva Bonsell 93rd, and Conner Castleberry 140th. The Sales and Service team took 19th place. Individual placing as follows: Logan Wolff placed 60th, Kelli Carroll 66th, Conner Castleberry 68th and Leva Bonsell 80th. The FFA members have been working hard and are busy selling fruit (now delivering it) as a fundraiser. They had a booth during the bazaar selling fruit and custom made cutting boards that are selling like crazy. They will be selling pizza during the month of January and maybe even having a car wash during May. The FFA members traveled to Bozeman on the 1st of April to compete in the State FFA competition. While there the Carter County FFA team stood strong as the Livestock Judging and the Agronomy Teams placed 20th overall. As for the individual competitions Greg Brence took 6th place overall out of a whopping 200 people in the Livestock Judging. Congratulations FFA!
On April, 29, the Carter County FFA Chapter held their annual meeting. Rocky Forseth, a former state officer, came down to the banquet as a guest speaker. New officers were elected, all FFA members were recognized, and awards were given. The Offices elected were president, vice president, secretary, treasure, poluntary, reporter, sentinel, and historian. Conner Castleberry was re-elected President for the upcoming year; Pat Hansen as Vice President, Greg Hansen as Treasure, Angela Brence as Secretary, Emily Brence as Reporter, Leva Bonsell as Sentinel, and Cele Ketchum as Historian. Many awards were
given at the annual meeting. The Discovery Degree Award was given to Lane
Butler, Kris Harkins, and Kaitlin Morgan. The Star Discovery Award was rewarded
to Kaitlin Morgan. The Greenhand Award was given to Emily Brence and Cele
Ketchum. Cele Ketchum also received the Star Greenhand Award. The Chapter Farmer
Degree was given to Brent Fix, Leva Bonsell, Greg Brence, and Pat Hansen. Angela
Brence also received the Star Chapter Farmer Award. The Star Agriscience Award
was given to Conner Castleberry. Logan Wolff received the Dekalb Accomplishment
Award and the Destry Star Award. The Taren Strub Award was given to Leva Bonsell.
Jay Beach and Rebecca Wolenentz both received the Honorary Chapter Degree Award. The meeting was then adjourned after Awards were given and new members were recognized. They also had an Auction where each member was sold for 8 hours of labor. The Auction brought in over $3000.
